Global Appraisal of Individual Needs (GAIN) Staged Screening and Assessments

CMHA Simcoe County – Addiction Services requires the completion of the Global Appraisal of Individual Needs (GAIN) screening and assessment tools with all of our clients as part of our treatment programs. All Addictions Services counsellors are fully trained and certified in the use of GAIN.

The Staged Screening and Assessment (SS&A) process is an evidence-based, standardized screening and assessment process that has been mandated by the Ministry of Health and Long –Term Care for LHIN funded substance use services in Ontario.  This staged process helps identify both substance use and mental health issues among clients seeking substance use services, increasing appropriate referrals and helping in treatment planning.

Please Note: CMHA Simcoe County – Addiction Services DOES NOT provide an individual substance use assessment service for outside agencies or individuals. The GAIN assessments are conducted for clients of the agency as part of our treatment programs or as they may be required for facilitating inpatient treatment referrals.
