This workshop will focus on identifying our fears around talking to loved ones about suicide. The language we use and our approach to this topic can make all the difference in creating lines of safety with others. It’s important to learn how to hold space for this conversation and remove the stigma. Many find that they are maybe afraid to support someone who they think may have thoughts of suicide for fear of not knowing what to say. Together, we will go over language, how to show compassion and hold space for these vulnerable conversations. We will talk about getting comfortable asking uncomfortable questions and the importance of direct language choice.
Facilitator, Hayley Peek, works as a Peer Supporter and Mental Health Consultant in both the workplace and community. Her focus is on creating safe spaces for education and conversation around mental health, wellness and addiction.
