CMHA supports Pink Shirt Day!

Each year on the last Wednesday in February, individuals and organizations around the world come together to recognize Pink Shirt Day to promote anti-bullying initiatives.

CKNW Kids’ Fund’s Pink Shirt Day aims to raise awareness of bullying in schools, workplaces, homes and online, as well as raise funds to support programs that foster children’s healthy self- esteem.

Bullying is a form of aggression where there is a power imbalance; the person doing the bullying has power over the person being victimized. In additional to any physical trauma incurred, bullying can result in mental health issues, including anxiety, low self-esteem or depression.

Last year, more than 110 countries participated in Pink Shirt Day activities. Now a global movement, Pink Shirt Day was originally inspired by an act of kindness in small-town Nova Scotia. Learn more about the origins here.
