Did you know that there are over 321 million French-speaking people around the world?

International Francophonie Day is observed within the International Organization of La Francophonie‘s 77 member states every March 20 to celebrate the French language and Francophone culture.

Created in 1988, it celebrates the signing of the Niamey Convention in Niger on 20 March 1970. As a result, the International Organization of La Francophonie was eventually created. Its members are committed to celebrating the French language and the rich and diverse francophone culture but also the values of peace, democracy and respect for human rights that unite them all.

Check out this link to a song that highlights the power of words and celebrates the French language. Written by Yves Duteil, a French singer, inspired by Québec singer/songwriter Félix Leclerc who was a strong advocate of the French language and culture.

Also included is a translation of the lyrics. Enjoy and hopefully, you will come to appreciate the message shared.
