Withdrawal Management
Community Withdrawal Management Services (CWMS)
CWMS is an outpatient program for individuals 16 and older seeking to withdraw from alcohol or drugs, including physician-directed tapering. It’s for those with mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms who prefer not to attend residential services.
The program lasts about 4 weeks, Monday to Friday, covering withdrawal planning, daily symptom monitoring for the initial 5-10 days, management strategies, and referrals to other supports if needed. CWMS is non-medical; those with specific health symptoms may be referred to other services. Medication support can be obtained from a family doctor, nurse practitioner, or community clinic, but isn’t required.
Goals, whether abstinence or harm reduction, are decided by the individual. For more info, contact CWMS staff at (705) 726-5033 ext. 319.
