A $118,300 OTF grant from the Province helped the Canadian Mental Health Association Simcoe County Branch with its building’s accessibility

MEDIA RELEASE

March 17, 2026

Barrie, ON – On Tuesday, MPP Doug Downey met with the team at the Canadian Mental Health Association Simcoe County Branch (CMHA SCB) to celebrate the work done thanks to receiving a $118,300 Capital grant in 2023 from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). Thanks to the Capital grant, the CMHA SCB was able to make some accessibility upgrades and additions at their location.

“This funding will help to ensure that CMHA SCB can provide services to their clients in a more welcoming and accessible space,” said Doug Downey, MPP for Barrie–Springwater–Oro-Medonte. “By improving this space, CMHASCB will be able to provide support to more people in need across our region.”

Funds from the Capital grant were used to replace an aging ramp outside CMHA SCB’s Ferris Lane location. In addition, the organization has installed new automatic doors at its main entrance and has also upgraded its interior lighting.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. This grant allowed us to make important improvements to our facilities so that the people we serve can access programs and services in a space that is welcoming, safe, and accessible. Investments like this strengthen our ability to support mental health across our community,” said Sarah Banbury, CEO, CMHA SCB.

CMHA SCB is a non-profit, charitable organization providing community-based mental health and addiction services across Simcoe County. The organization offers a wide range of programs including case management, employment support, crisis services, housing supports, and specialized programs that promote recovery and wellness.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested nearly $105M into 732 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
