Crisis Bed Unit – Community and Partner Update
Jun 3, 2022
CMHA Simcoe County Branch
June 3, 2022
CMHA Simcoe County Branch (CMHA SCB) regrets to announce the temporary suspension of our Crisis Bed Unit effective June 5th, 2022 until operations are re-located to an alternate location.
The Crisis Bed Unit has been operating within the David Busby Street Centre (88 Mulcaster Street in Barrie) since February 2022 with the agreement to stay until August 1st, 2022. The David Busby Street Centre has been utilizing a local hotel to continue to provide emergency housing support during the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to adhere to public health guidance and restrictions.
The David Busby Street Centre has recently received notice to transition back to their home location at 88 Mulcaster Street in Barrie from the County of Simcoe with endorsement by the Chief Medical Officer of Health by June 30th, 2022.
CMHA SCB recognizes the overwhelming need within this population of people being served and has agreed to support our community partner by voluntarily vacating the space to allow for the David Busby Street Centre to return to 88 Mulcaster Street in Barrie.
Support and resources continue to be offered to assist, guide and navigate individuals who require short-term accommodation through CMHA SCB, in collaboration with community partners.
CMHA SCB Crisis Services continues to offer 24/7 telephone support to assist individuals, community agencies, emergency services and family or friends, to work through resolution of identified issues and challenges. Our Community Outreach and Support Team (COAST) in partnership with police services, continues to provide crisis intervention services within the community.
As a leading community-based organization across the region, CMHA SCB is committed to providing services and supports for individuals and families experiencing mental health and addiction issues, in Simcoe County. CMHA SCB continues to be thankful for the dedication, passion and energy of our staff, the Board of Directors, Community Partners, volunteers and students, working collectively to promote mental health for all and supporting the resilience and recovery of people experiencing mental illness and addiction.
