The Justice Safe bed program provides temporary housing and provision of basic living needs and is intended to divert persons 16 years of age and older in mental health and/or addictions crisis from incarceration, the justice system, and/or unnecessary hospitalization by providing them with voluntary community crisis accommodation and support.
These service recipients will be considered unsuitable for hospital admission by medical professionals, and inappropriate for arrest and detention by police, but in need of supportive, short-term mental health residential placement.
Supports and services are currently being offered regionally through our Assertive Outreach team. The Assertive Outreach program is embedded in the shelter system in the communities of Midland, Orillia and Barrie. This regional program provides support to those most marginalized in the community and the least likely to be accessing traditional social services.
Our outreach team provides on-location support including;
- Certain medical services and urgent supplies (e.g. food, clothes, and blankets)
- Connection to other supportive programs, including mental health and addiction
