New Campaign for CMHA SCB!

CMHA Simcoe County is More Than Mental Health.

Let me explain.

Since 1960, CMHA SCB has been a leader in providing direct services, advocacy and education for individuals seeking to improve their mental health and for individuals looking for support with addiction issues, their families and the general public. The fight for adequate services and understanding for persons with mental illness and addiction issues is at the forefront of everything we do.

Despite CMHA SCB’s longstanding presence, a significant challenge persists: many people don’t know who CMHA SCB is, what it does or how it differs from other mental health organizations. This confusion isn’t just a matter of mistaken identity—it points to a deeper issue that affects our ability to reach those who need us most.

There are many tensions we seek to address here, such as limited awareness of services, fragmented understanding of health, communications gaps, and an unclear role of CMHA SCB versus other community agencies. Each of these tensions stands in the way of us reaching our full potential as a care provider to individuals living with mental illnesses and/or addictions challenges. Now, more than ever, with mental health and addiction challenges on the rise, it’s crucial the public, our partners and potential clients understand who we are and what sets us apart.

At CMHA SCB, we believe in supporting the whole person, not just one part. Well-being is shaped by so much more than mental health alone. It’s your home, your connections, your sense of belonging and your ability to access the resources that help you thrive.

With this new campaign, we’re giving it to our audience in plain language, while also evoking curiosity. It invites the audience to ask, “If it’s more than mental health, what else is it?”

This campaign is what answers that question. It’s memorable, clear and rooted in modern best practices for mental health care. This messaging positions CMHA SCB as leader in not just mental health, but serving the whole person.

We invite you to join us on this journey of reframing who we are and what we do.

CMHA Simcoe County Launches “More Than Mental Health” Campaign at Barrie Waterfront Festival

BARRIE, ON – The Canadian Mental Health Association, Simcoe County Branch (CMHA SCB), is proud to unveil its new awareness campaign, “More Than Mental Health,” launching at the Barrie Waterfront Festival, May 23–26.

For more than 60 years, CMHA SCB has delivered mental health and addiction services to individuals and families across the region. Yet, despite this deep-rooted presence, confusion remains about the organization’s scope and identity—often being mistaken for other providers, such as the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).

“Mental health is at our core, but it’s not the whole story,” says Liz Grummett, Manager of Fundraising, Communications & Community Engagement.
“This campaign makes it clear—we support the whole person. That means housing, food security, harm reduction, nurse practitioner services, and a sense of belonging.”

“More Than Mental Health” responds to ongoing gaps in public awareness with bold visuals and accessible messaging designed to reframe how people see mental health and well-being. It invites the question: If CMHA SCB is more than mental health—what else is it?

Festival attendees will get a first look at the campaign through an interactive booth, updated resources, and exclusive merchandise from local partner Mindful Apparel, with proceeds supporting outreach and community programming.

The campaign will continue to roll out across Simcoe County through events, social media, and partner activations throughout the year.
